This morning the Western Cape (WC) Minister of Health, Theuns Botha, hosted a function at the Provincial Department of Health (DoH) to celebrate the department’s winners of the Provincial Service Excellence Awards 2014.
The awards were originally hosted by the WC Government on 9 September 2014 to give credit to projects spanning across all public service departments.
Top representatives of the department were in attendance at today’s function, including DoH Head, Prof Househam, CEO of Victoria Hospital, Dr Melvin Moodley, and Business Development Director, Michael Manning.
Minister Botha congratulated each of the winners and explained the work they were recognised for. The WC DoH was awarded gold for Best Ethics, which Minister Botha attributed to Prof Househam’s work ethic and exemplary management. The Best Public Service Innovator went to the team working on the upgrading to the Victoria Hospital Paediatric Ward to create dedicated space for parents to support and care for their admitted children.
Carla Brown and Maria Mahgrieta Goodier from the DoH also won gold for Best Frontline Service Delivery Employee of the Year and Best Overall Batho Pele (Citizen-centric) Public Servant, respectively.
Minister Botha concluded by saying how he’s pleased the DoH is getting the recognition they deserve and looks forward to more nominations and winners from within the department next year.
