TrustaTAG Systems is allowing consumers to access medical information through the use of Microsoft TAG technology.
The South African organisation has constructed a comprehensive packaging and product management tool –TrustaTAG.
The mobile platform has utilised the growing cellular handset market, which is expected to exceed the total global population this year, as a solution to the consumer information legislation on limited product packaging space.
TrustaTAG allows consumers to scan a tag image housed on a box or container using any smart phone or feature phone device. The platform automatically redirects the user to a portal that offers product information in an easily understood format and language.
TrustaTAG Systems Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ian Puttergill – a former Microsoft Africa Developer Platform lead, noted how Microsoft’s TAG technology has been imperative to the success of TrustaTAG. “Microsoft TAG is unique in that it can be applied to any packaging surface, at almost any size and still operate in a superior manner when compared to more traditional QR or DataMatrix code formats.”
The Microsoft TAG format is accessible under bad lighting, is small in size, reads fast and is highly customisable – all of which are ideal for placement on healthcare packaging.
The majority of South African mobile users now have the power to access valuable healthcare product information via basic networks, such as GPRS, through TAG technology. “The technology has made the management of key medications such as antiretroviral solutions far more comprehensive and reliable,” Mr. Puttergill stated.
