A partnership between Samsung Electronics SA and the Health Foundation is helping the Western Cape Government (WCG) improve the delivery of healthcare services by incentivising and rewarding service improvements in public health facilities.

Samsung has donated electronics to the Health Foundation who together with the WCG distributed the donations in such a way that incentivised and rewarded innovation and improved healthcare delivery in public health facilities across the province.

Samsung donated electronic equipment consisting of washing machines, sound systems and refrigerators worth R200,000, and 19 media systems valued at over R82,000.

The media systems, which include DVD home entertainment systems, AV receivers with speaker systems and HIFI systems, will be used for purposes of education, staff motivation and health promotion in healthcare facilities.

The sound equipment was distributed as prizes to the winning facilities of the C2AIR2 Club July 2015 Innovation Summit Challenge, an initiative introduced by the WCG in 2014 as a tool to improve service delivery and to continually enhance customer experience through the actions of employees.

Groote Schuur Hospital received a Samsung Soundshare to be used for health promotion and education in the hospital’s Innovation Hub, while the Knysna District Hospital received a Samsung AV Receiver with a speaker system. The facility is currently upgrading its old X-ray department into an interactive library and learning system. Once complete, the system will be installed in this venue to aid in teaching and training of the hospital staff.

The Green Point Community Day Centre received a small HIFI System, which is used for team building sessions aimed at improving services through the C2AIR2 values of the department, as well as during their outreach to nearby homeless shelters to screen patients for HIV, TB, Diabetes and Hypertension.

A DVD Home Entertainment System was donated to the Rural District Health services, which plan to use the system for workshops and functions to promote staff wellness in the Districts.

New Somerset Regional Hospital, Victoria District Hospital, Hanover Park Community Health Centre, Grabouw Community Day Centre and Mitchells Plain Community Health Centre were also among the winning facilities.
