The National Department of Health (NDoH) in Pretoria has allegedly been attacked by a suspected petrol bomb on Wednesday afternoon.

Spokesperson for the NDoH, Joe Maila, said “a man threw what looked like a petrol bomb at the entrance. The small fire that started was restricted to the reception area.”

He went on to say that “no one was injured and we have evacuated all staff from the building as a safety precaution and have called the police to deal with the matter.” According to Maila, the man who threw the bomb was apprehended by the building’s security and they were waiting for police to arrive on the scene.

Spokesperson for Tshwane emergency services, Johan Pieterse, said that when they arrived on scene the fire had already been extinguished. “Police will conduct an investigation, but things did look strange,” said Pieterse who could not confirm the exact cause of the fire.

eHealthNews will report on further outcomes.
