Contribution to eHealth in SA
The goal of @POPIcompliance is to see small to medium-sized businesses adopt POPI as a positive opportunity to strengthen client relationships trust. POPI is an opportunity to see South African businesses mature into the information age of commerce.
@POPIcompliance is a voice against the tide of negative scaremongering that highlights fines and punishment. They want to highlight that this is about our Constitutional right to privacy. POPI (or POPIA) should be implemented by companies even if it were not an enforced law. It’s just the right, mature thing to do for business operating in the information age.
Taking that ethos into the healthcare industry, medical practitioners and their management teams can approach POPI as part of the existing mandates of the healthcare legislative framework. Their compliance initiatives work best when aligned to existing values of patient care and confidentiality, and ongoing compliance becomes part of the working culture of the practice. The healthcare network is extensive and complicated. Compliance is as much a collaborative exercise as a cultural one.
@POPIcompliance provides information, tools and a community to help practices, their suppliers and the general network of healthcare orientated businesses comply with South African privacy legislation while maximising the benefits of having healthy relationships with their customers and patients.
